Windows 10 is one of the most commonly used Operating System as of today. In today’s post, we will see 10 tips and tricks to speed up Windows.

  • Disable all startup programmes. Right-click on the taskbar and click on task manager in the window that appears. There will be a startups option just below the title bar. When you click on that there will be a list of programmes. Just right click on each one and disable them. These programmes are loaded up as soon as you boot your PC. These take up additional resources to startup and hence by disabling them you can boot up into Windows faster.
  • Go to the Control Panel and click on “Uninstall a programme”. Once you do this you will see a list of all applications installed on your PC. Uninstall all the unnecessary application from your PC.
  • Open “This PC” on your computer. Right-click on the C Drive or whatever drive Windows is installed in. In the list of options that appears click on properties and once inside click on the disk cleanup option. Windows will calculate all the junk that can be cleaned from your computer. In the dialogue box that appears after calculating check all the boxes that are available and press on “clean up system files”. This will clean out all the junk files from your drive. Repeat the same process for all drives.
  • Go to Settings and click on “Update and Security”. Make sure that all updates are installed.
  • Avoid storing files on your desktop. Make sure that only the shortcuts to all the applications are there on your desktop.
  • Navigate to System and Security in the control panel. Click on the Power options and select the highest performance. This is usually given as High or Ultimate performance. be careful while doing this on a laptop as it can drain your battery quickly.
  • Press the Windows button and R on your keyboard at the same time and type in temp and press enter. Delete all the files that are stored in this folder. Repeat the same steps again but instead type %temp% in the dialogue box that appears.
  • If you can afford it buy an SSD and transfer the Windows 10 files into it as this will help in decreasing the boot time considerably.

If your system is really old or still feels slow after doing all these steps then I would recommend installing Linux and using it as it requires less amount of resources and is quite fast when compared to Windows be it boot time or responsiveness.
