When you read this title the first thing that comes to your mind might be for or water but no it’s the internet. Living in the 21st century our lives have become soo dependant on the internet that we find it hard to manage even half a day without our smartphones or laptops, but have you ever stopped to think how exactly does all this work? If you haven’t well no worries that’s what we will be exploring today.

THE MISCONCEPTION BEHIND THE WORKING OF THE INTERNET

There is a misconception behind the working of the internet that satellites play a vital role in the working of the internet but this is not so. People are of the idea that when we request data from the data centre whether they are Google searches or our Instagram chats the data is transferred to the satellite from where it reaches our phone but this is not so.

HOW DOES THE INTERNET WORK

When the gadget that we use requests data from the data centre the data is transferred via optical fibre cables in digital format. These cables travel through harsh terrain including mountains and ocean beds to reach our phones. Whether we use our mobile data or the WiFi our devices are somewhere connected to these optical cables. These optical cables are connected to the cell phone towers where they are converted into electromagnetic waves and reach our phone.

And that’s how the internet works. We take it for granted and complain of our internet connection is slow without knowing the complexity and the effort that has gone into it so that you can use the internet from your home. Hope this post was helpful and you learnt something new.
